Iain Banks

Iain Banks (1954–2013) was a Scottish author celebrated for both his literary fiction and, under the name Iain M. Banks, his landmark science fiction Culture series. The Wasp Factory, his debut, caused a sensation on publication in 1984. He won numerous awards throughout his career and was widely mourned when he died of cancer at the age of fifty-nine.
