Editorial Standards

How we select, review, and present books — and why it matters.

Our mission

ReadAda exists to help every reader — including those who are visually impaired, dyslexic, or simply short on time — decide whether a book is worth their attention before they invest in it. We do that through short audio summaries (Ada Briefs), honest ratings from Ada's literary assessments, and plain-language editorial notes.

How books are selected

We do not charge publishers or authors to be listed on ReadAda. A book earns a place in our catalogue when it meets at least one of the following criteria:

  • It has received recognition from an established literary award or prize
  • It has been recommended by a librarian, educator, or accessibility organisation
  • A member of our editorial team believes it will be genuinely valuable to our readers

Ratings and reviews

Ratings on ReadAda represent Ada’s analytical assessment of each book — they are not aggregated from reader reviews or crowd platforms. A score of 4.2 means Ada judges the book to be very good with minor reservations. Scores reflect literary quality and likely appeal, not popularity.

We do not accept paid reviews, sponsored placements in rating scores, or any form of remuneration in exchange for a higher rating.

Ada Briefs

Ada Briefs are short audio summaries (30–90 seconds) narrated by Ada, our AI editorial assistant. They are written to be useful to people who cannot easily read a book description themselves — whether due to visual impairment, dyslexia, cognitive load, or simply because they are multitasking.

Ada Briefs are generated and published automatically. If you believe a Brief contains an error or uses language you find objectionable, please contact us — we treat those reports as high-priority and will correct or remove the Brief promptly.

Editor's Picks and curated lists

Books marked as an Editor's Pick or included in a curated reading list are chosen solely on editorial merit. Inclusion is never purchased.

Affiliate links and commercial relationships

Some links to booksellers on ReadAda are affiliate links. If you buy a book through one of these links, ReadAda may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This revenue helps us keep the catalogue free and the Ada Briefs accessible to everyone.

Affiliate relationships never influence which books we feature, recommend, or rate. We would rather link to a book that earns us nothing than recommend a poor book that earns us a commission.

Corrections and updates

If you believe a rating, description, or Ada Brief contains an error, please contact us. We take accuracy seriously and will review every credible correction within 5 business days. Corrected content is updated silently unless the error was significant, in which case we note the correction at the bottom of the relevant page.

Accessibility commitment

Accessibility is not an afterthought at ReadAda — it is the reason we exist. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards across all pages. Ada Briefs are captioned. All cover images have descriptive alt text. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please tell us — we treat those reports as the highest-priority issues on our roadmap.
