Michelle McNamara (1970–2016) was an American true crime writer and founder of the website True Crime Diary. A passionate amateur investigator of the Golden State Killer case, she died before completing this book, which was finished by her husband Patton Oswalt and researchers Paul Haynes and Billy Jensen.
