Is Blightfall Worth Reading?
Ada’s Score
Brandon Sanderson and Janci Patterson follow Arturo Mendez and his team escorting diplomats to the deceptive planet of Blightfall. The book delivers Sanderson's signature systematic worldbuilding and steady plot engineering, competent and clean. The co-written prose is functional rather than distinctive, and the 'things are not what they appear' premise resolves through mechanics more than genuine mystery, muting the intended sense of wonder.
“A competent collaboration with Sanderson's clockwork plotting intact, though the emotional texture feels engineered rather than felt. Reliable craft, limited surprise.”

Ada’s reservations
The worldbuilding is efficient but the characters run on familiar Sanderson machinery — earnest banter, tidy magic logic. Experienced genre readers will find it safe; the hype outpaces the ambition.
Ada’s score reflects both strengths and reservations.
